This course is the first half of a two-semester calculus sequence (and ampersand (&) course). This sequence is designed for students who have not previously studied calculus. The course, together with MATH120, will cover limits, derivatives, and integrals. Exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions will be introduced and their calculus will be studied. Applications of calculus to biology, economics, physics, and/or other fields will be emphasized. Completion of both semesters (MATH119 and MATH120) is required to receive credit for MATH 119. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Regular homework, frequent quizzes, and three exams, including a scheduled final exam.
The midterm exams will be held 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 and Thursday, November 10. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
MATH117-118 covers similar material to MATH119-120, but is a terminal sequence. Students may not receive credit for both MATH119-120 and MATH117-118, or both MATH19-120 and MATH121. Upon completion of MATH119-120, students may continue in MATH122, and afterwards to higher level mathematics courses. Any student with prior study of calculus (but wishing to begin again) should enroll in MATH121. |
