In this class we will read three long novels, from three different societies and eras, for the pleasure and enlightenment of their contents and style and also to examine the unique phenomenon of long-form attention to a vast fictional world. |

Examinations and Assignments: Students will keep a reading journal, complete two creative imitations (5 pages each), and write either a critical essay or a work of original short fiction (10 pages) inspired by questions raised by the course texts. |
