This course will investigate the arts of Italy during the 14th and15th centuries. All discussion will center around the contextualization of the work of art, the motivation of its patrons, the social structures that gave it form, and the uses to which it might have been put. |
Essential Capabilities:
Interpretation, Logical Reasoning Translating visual texts into words tests both one's acuity of vision and verbal precision. Moreover, interpreting visual signs as historical evidence - indeed as forms of propaganda - also tests the limits of interpretation, in this case interpretation rooted in the conventions of the time in which the works of art were made.
