Course Cluster: Urban Studies |
The course considers the development of architecture, its theory and criticism, and ideas on urban form in mainly Europe and the United States in the 20th century. The first half of the semester focuses on the origin and development of the modern movement in Europe to 1940 and selected American works before World War II. The second half of the semester begins with international architectural culture after 1945, considering both continuations of and departures from the modern movement in postmodern, deconstructivist, and other work into the 21st century. The course closes with study of architecture in the non-Western world since the postwar period. |
