Museum Studies ARHA 360 Spring 2011 not offered Crosslisting: AMST 360 This museum studies seminar introduces students to the history of art museums and current debates on the role of museums in today's society, as well as institutional practices and career paths. In addition, students will organize a group exhibition of artwork from the Davison Art Center collection, research objects, and write exhibition labels. The theme for this year's exhibition will be the 18th century in Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and of Revolution, of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, William Hogarth, and Francisco Goya. Essential Capabilities: None Credit: 1 Gen Ed Area Dept: HA ART Course Format: Seminar Grading Mode: Graded Level: UGRD Prerequisites: None Fulfills a Requirement for: (AMST)(GRST-MN)(GRST) Major Readings: Course packet Examinations and Assignments: Four catalogue entries (2-3 pages each) on individual works of art and a term paper on your chosen artist's work. Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This is a museum studies seminar focusing on curatorial methods and exhibition development. Permission of instructor required. In addition to the Wednesday class there will be two sessions scheduled on Mondays and Fridays for independent work in the DAC collection.
