This museum studies seminar introduces students to the history of art museums and current debates on the role of museums in today's society, as well as institutional practices and career paths. In addition, students will organize a group exhibition of artwork from the Davison Art Center collection, research objects, and write exhibition labels.
The theme for this year's exhibition will be 20th-century American photography. Students will study the work in the collection and work collaboratively to define an exhibition theme and to select work. |

Examinations and Assignments: Four catalogue entries (2-3 pages each) on individual works of art and a term paper on your chosen artist's work. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This is a museum studies seminar focusing on curatorial methods and exhibition development. Permission of instructor required. In addition to the Wednesday class there will be two sessions scheduled on Mondays and Fridays for independent work in the DAC collection.
The theme for this year's exhibition will be the 18th century in Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and of Revolution, of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, William Hogarth, and Francisco Goya. |
