This course is a synthesis of fundamentals of design principles and introduction to design vocabulary, process methodologies, and craft. Emphasis is placed on developing students' ability to examine the relationship between production (the process of creating things) and expression (the conveying of ideas and meaning) involved in the making of architecture. The intent of the course is to develop students' awareness and understanding of the built environment as a result of the investigations, observations, and inquiries generated in the studio. |

Readings relevant to topics explored in each design project will be assigned.

Examinations and Assignments:
Students will explore design concepts and methodologies through a series of five projects. They are expected to maintain a sketchbook as a diary of sketches and development of architectural thought. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students are expected to attend all class sessions. Drawing I or similar background in freehand drawing suggested. This course is not open to first-year students. Interviews for this class will be Thursday, November 12, 5:00 - 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. If you cannot make these times please email the instructor for an appointment before Thursday, November 19. |
