Architecture I ARST 435 Spring 2017 Section: 01   This course is a synthesis of fundamentals of design principles and introduction to design vocabulary, process methodologies, and craft. Emphasis is placed on developing students' ability to examine the relationship between production (the process of creating things) and expression (the conveying of ideas and meaning) involved in the making of architecture. The intent of the course is to develop students' awareness and understanding of the built environment as a result of the investigations, observations, and inquiries generated in the studio. Examinations and Assignments: Students will explore design concepts and methodologies through a series of three projects. Each project will culminate in a project pin-up and review with internal or external design critics. Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students are expected to attend all class sessions. Drawing I or similar background in freehand drawing recommended.
