This introductory-level course in painting (oils) emphasizes work from observation and stresses the fundamentals of formal structure: color, paint manipulation, composition, and scale. Students will address conceptual problems that will allow them to begin to develop an understanding of the power of visual images to convey ideas and expressions. The course will include individual and group critiques and museum trips. |

Examinations and Assignments: Midterm and group and individual critiques. A minimum of ten hours of independent studio work is required each week. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Prerequisites: ARST131
Selection by interview with instructor, and review of a portfolio containing no more than 10 works on paper.
The group interview will take place at 4 PM on Friday, November 6th in Art Studio South 103, after which the professor will look at individual portfolios.
