This introductory-level course in painting (oils) emphasizes work from observation and stresses the fundamentals of formal structure: color, paint manipulation, composition, and scale. Students will address conceptual problems that will allow them to begin to develop an understanding of the power of visual images to convey ideas and expressions. The course will include individual and group critiques and museum trips. |

Examinations and Assignments: Midterm and group and individual critiques. A minimum of ten hours of independent studio work is required each week. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Prerequisites: ARST131 Selection by interview with instructor, and review of a portfolio containing no more than 10 works on paper.
Interviews will be on Thursday, April 12 from 4:00-5:30 in Art Studio North Room 103. No appointment necessary. Please submit a POI Request before noon on Wednesday, April 11th. |
