Laboratory in Cellular and Behavioral Neurobiology

The goals of the course are to introduce students to a number of contemporary laboratory techniques in neuroscience and behavior. The laboratory introduces students to experimental method and techniques including neuroanatomy, immunohistochemistry, primary neuronal and astrocyte cell culture methods, analyses of electrical activity in the brain, and behavioral analyses of learning, memory, social behavior, and social dominance in inbred strains of mice.
Students will learn to analyze experimental data and write a series of laboratory reports on the experiments done during class. In addition, students will write a term paper related to one of the experimental approaches. |

This section is part of the Spring Intensive pilot program. Students who enroll in the program will take courses during spring 2016 one at a time, each during a three-week time period. This class will meet Jan 22-Feb 11, from 1:10 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Students interested in the program should contact Lisa Dierker, ldierker@wesleyan.edu. Selected students will be notified directly and will not need to participate in the pre-registration system.
In addition, interested students should submit the following information to Professor Naegele, jnaegele@wesleyan.edu : 1) prior coursework in biology, psychology, and neuroscience; 2) relevant experience in research laboratories; and 3) long term career goals (if known). |
