In this advanced seminar, we consider how genes and environment interact to shape the development and behavior of organisms, including humans. After an initial series of lectures and discussions on classic and current readings, the class will consist of in-depth student presentations and discussion. |

Classic papers on the gene/environment interaction by J.B.S. Haldane, R.C. Lewontin, H.F. Nijhout, and philosopher Russell Gray; current articles from the primary biological and medical literature on topics of students' choice.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments: The prerequisite is any course in either development, behavior, genetics or evolution (e.g., Bio 241, Biol 221, Bio 349, Bio/NSB 213 or 224, etc). However, students who have not taken BIOL214 OR BIOL218 OR [BIOL254 or NS&B254] should obtain a prerequisite override form from the Registrar's Office prior to registering for the course. |
