In this advanced seminar, we consider how genes and environment interact to shape the development and behavior of organisms, including humans. After an initial series of lectures and discussions on classic and current readings, the class will consist of in-depth student presentations and discussion. |

Classic papers on gene/environment interaction by J.B.S. Haldane, R.C. Lewontin, H.F. Nijhout, and philosopher Russell Gray; current articles from the primary biological and medical literature on topics of students' choice.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
The prerequisite is any course beyond Intro Biology (BIOL 181/182) in either development, behavior, genetics or evolution (e.g., BIOL 214, BIOL 218, NS&B 213, BIOL 224). However, students who have not taken BIOL 214 OR BIOL 218 OR BIOL 254 OR BIOL 224 should contact Professor Sultan for permission to obtain a pre-req override form. |
