The Integrated Laboratory sequence is a capstone for the chemistry major and is designed to provide students with: 1) documented experience in a variety of standard laboratory techniques and the operation of a range of analytical instruments; 2) advanced skills in searching, reading, and critically assessing the primary literature; and 3) practice in communicating science effectively in written, visual, and oral formats. Students, in collaboration with the course staff, develop individualized courses of study to achieve these goals. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Assessment in Chem 376 is based on a holistic approach, which includes written work, technical skills acquired, the ability to work in teams, and effectiveness as a leader The structure for assessment is based on a performance evaluation scheme similar to the one used in Chem 375: Students will be evaluated on how well they achieve the goals they and the staff have agreed on at the beginning of the semester. Areas of evaluation generally include, for example, synthetic skills, use of analytical techniques and instrumentation, interpretation of data, meeting deadlines, chemical information research skills, notebook documentation, peer review feedback, collaborative input on projects, self-assessments and successful fulfilling safety responsibilities. |

Participation in a Capstone Symposium on Sunday, April 28, 2024, 10:00 am-2:00 pm is required. |
