This colloquium examines the work of a number of major 20th-century social and political theorists such as Hannah Arendt, Jürgen Habermas, John Rawls, Michael Oakeshott, Franz Fanon, Ludwig Von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Michel Foucault, Seyla Benhabib, and Wendy Brown. The colloquium will be organized around central concepts of social and political analysis such as human rights, the public and private sphere, human action and social structure, freedom, and the nature of politics. In addition, the colloquium will explore various ways in which the social sciences have employed key concepts and have interpreted the self-understanding of social actors, and how these inform the overarching theories of contemporary thinkers. |
