This is an introduction to dance as an educational, technical, and creative discipline for students with no previous formal dance training. Classes will introduce the basic components of dance technique--stretching, strengthening, aligning the body, and developing coordination in the execution of rhythmic movement patterns. Through improvisation, composition, and performing, students will develop a solid framework applicable to all forms of dance. |

This course is for the complete beginner with no previous dance training. No student may concurrently be enrolled in a dance course at the 200 level or higher while taking this course.
This course is a Hybrid In-Person course with most classes held in-person and some sessions held online until Thanksgiving and fully online after Thanksgiving. The course cannot accept any students who would not be able to participate in the in-person sessions. By enrolling in the course, you pledge to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing (6 feet apart) for the entire duration of each class session. You also acknowledge that the instructor has the right to ask you to leave the class should you fail/choose to not observe these safe practice protocols at any time. Finally, you acknowledge that observing these safe practice protocols does not immune you from contracting COVID-19 and have thought hard about your decision to enroll in the course at this time when the world is still battling the pandemic and will not hold the instructor or Wesleyan university liable for contracting the virus.
