This course may be repeated for credit. |
This elementary modern dance class is above the introductory level with an emphasis on anatomically sound and efficient movement. Studio work, readings, and homework assignments focus on experiential anatomy and the development of strength, endurance, joint mobility, and technical skills necessary for working in dance technique, improvisation, and choreography. |
Essential Capabilities:
Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Interpretation This course studies the elements of movement (space, time, energy and weight) in relation to the processes of embodiment and movement invention, construction and interpretation. Daily studio practice will provide the movement framework essential to interpret and discuss various phenomena related to technique as an artistic process, the culture of performance and the performance of culture. This course emphasizes mindful practice in developing the capacity of one¿s instrument, and the use of discerning judgment and interpretation in the collaborative process. Reading, writing and creative assignments are undertaken individually and in small groups. Through its emphasis on the practice of performance, Modern Dance Technique combines the categories of "interpretation" with "designing, creating, realizing."
