DANC 211
Spring 2025
Section: 01
This course may be repeated for credit.

ATHLETICS: involving the use of physical skills or capabilities, such as strength, agility, stamina and a sense of play; INTIMACY: closeness of observation or knowledge of a subject. These classes will combine skills and applications based on decades of movement research (martial arts Capoeira and Aikido, low acrobatics, partnering/social dancing, dynamic games, contact improvisation, somatic training). We will start with floorwork skills training (falls, rolling, quadrupedal crawling patterns, cartwheeling, inversion/upside-down arm balancing, etc). We will then move into strong investigations into partnering with one another and ensemble dancing. You will safely learn these skills through progressively scaled movement challenges in our class! Then our class will focus will be on the physical, sensorial, and imaginative challenges and risks with partnering movement practices using mutual touch, balancing, and weight sharing skills with one another. We will connect with our own bodies and to each other through playful focused interaction with our fellow group members/classmates. This class will honor the individual within the group. Each student brings their own unique history and movement experiences into the shared experience of creating duet and ensemble movement scores together. No previous partnering experience is necessary. All who are curious about connection and partnering are welcome!
