This course in creating and performing choreography, emphasizes the diversity of techniques, methods, and aesthetic approaches available to the choreographer. Assignments will revolve around inventing, organizing, and evaluating movement styles and on solving composition tasks that are drawn from various art mediums. The semester of Dance 250 focuses on the creation of group and the presentation of a formal black box theatrical setting, while the semester of Dance 249 focuses on develop and presentation in an informal setting. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Weekly dance composition and reading assignments, various video/film viewings, short papers and attendance at dance concerts. Work from the semester will appear in the Spring Dance Concert. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Both courses (Dance 249 & Dance 250) develop movement invention, the student-choreographer¿s artistry, individual craft and aesthetic. Further, in Dance 250, the student commits to developing a semester-long individualize project of cultural resonance and formal significance to be performed by a small ensemble with costume and lighting. To be this end, a modest budget is afforded the student-choreographer.
Both courses are prerequisites for DANC371.
Requirement: concurrent enrollment in a dance technique class. Students must participate as members of production crews for two dance concerts during the semester. This is an ampersand course with DANC249. |
