|
This class will focus on the process of making a dance. Skills in movement observation and creative decision making will be developed with regard to all the necessary technical aspects of its production. Practical and theoretical issues raised by the works in progress, and readings will be discussed in clas meetings. |
Essential Capabilities:
Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Interpretation This course requires each student to design, create and realize a group choreographic work in dance which is performed at the end of the semester. Critique sessions are held on a regular basis, allowing for ongoing feedback in relation to each individual student's creative process and contextual framework. Learning the technical theatrical elements of lighting and costume design, as well as the organization and management of a complete concert, are integral components of this course.
Interpretation - Students will develop visual interpretation skills both as critical observer and creator. Verbal and written presentations are required, and students are encouraged to develop their own interpretation skills based on a range of analytic tools and approaches discussed in the class.
