Choreography Workshop
DANC 371
Fall 2011
Section: 01

This class will focus on the process of making a dance. Skills in organizing and leading rehearsals, creative decision making and movement observation will be developed within the context of individual students honing their approach and style as choreographers. Practical and theoretical issues raised by the works in progress will frame in-class discussions and all necessary technical aspects of producing the dances will be addressed.

Essential Capabilities: Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Interpretation
This course requires each student to design, create and realize a group choreographic work in dance which is performed at the end of the semester. Critique sessions are held on a regular basis, allowing for ongoing feedback in relation to each individual student's creative process and contextual framework. Learning the technical theatrical elements of lighting and costume design, as well as the organization and management of a complete concert, are integral components of this course.

Interpretation - Students will develop visual interpretation skills both as critical observer and creator. Verbal and written presentations are required, and students are encouraged to develop their own interpretation skills based on a range of analytic tools and approaches discussed in the class.
