The course uses economic analysis as a way of understanding the structure and evolution of the legal system. Selected rules and institutional forms drawn from the common law of property, contract, tort and crime are studied as evolved responses to particular issues that were points of dispute in litigation. Scholarly sources in law and economic theory describing the evolution of common law norms will be referenced throughout the course. |

Major Readings:
All readings on reserve. Drawn from economic sources (authors such as R.H. Coase, and F. A. Hayek) as well as legal and judicial writing. Substantial readings in case law. Textbooks to be determined.

Examinations and Assignments:
Three graded essays, each 6-8 pages. No final examination. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students who complete ECON 225 cannot receive credit towards the econ or MECO major for ECON 325, or vice versa depending on your needs for major credit. |
