The course uses economic analysis as a way of understanding the structure and evolution of the legal system. Selected rules and institutional forms drawn from the common law of property, contract, tort, and crime are studied as evolved responses to particular kinds of problems or failures in the market system. Readings are drawn from judicial opinions and scholarly sources in law, economics, philosophy, and political theory. |

Major Readings:
Readings will be drawn from a range of sources, including judicial opinions, classic texts and contemporary scholarship in economics, law and political theory.

Examinations and Assignments:
In addition to regular class attendance and participation in discussions, three graded essays of seven pages each are required. There are no examinations. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students who complete ECON 225 cannot receive credit towards the ECON or MECO major for ECON 325, or vice versa depending on your needs for major credit. |
