The course will explore current issues, models, and debates in the international finance and open-economy macroeconomics literature. Topics to be covered include international financial transactions and the determination of the current account balance, models of exchange-rate determination, monetary and fiscal policy in open economies, optimal currency areas, currency crises, and the international financial architecture. There may be scope for student input into the topics covered. Theoretical and empirical approaches will be explored. |

International Economics: Theory & Policy by Krugman, Obstfeld and Melitz, plus readings from academic articles and selected book chapters. Students are expected to read major international news sources to stay current with events bearing on the course.

8 problem sets, 2 in class exams, a term project that includes in-class presentation and write-up. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students who complete ECON 331 cannot receive credit towards the ECON or MECO major for ECON 231, or vice versa depending on one's needs for major credit. |
