Practice in writing literary and journalistic nonfiction--for example a profile, narrative, review, commentary, travel essay, family sketch, or personal essay. Students are also welcome to try science writing, arts or music reviewing, and other specialized writing designed to engage general readers. Readings include work by Joan Didion, Annie Dillard, William Finnegan, George Orwell, Brian Doyle, Andre Aciman and many others. |

Weekly writing assignments in the first part of the course, followed by revision exercises and a longer project. You may shape the assignments to suit your interests. |

The course counts toward the Theory & Literary Forms and Creative Writing concentrations in the English major.
For the Writing Certificate, this course may be counted either as a craft course or as an elective.
It also fulfills the Certificate's workshop requirement. |
