Major Readings:
Poems by Crane, Moore, Oppen, Reznikoff, Hughes, Rukeyser, O'Hara, Schuyler, Baraka, Ginsberg, with attention to historical backgrounds on the old and new left, gay liberation, feminism, black nationalism.

Approximately six short papers; or a research paper. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Some previous acquaintance with poetry or American history is recommended. Punctual and regular attendance. Willing and ready participation in classroom discussion. This course meets the English Department's Research Option requirement for Senior thesis writers. |
