This course is designed to build and strengthen skills in oral and written German. The course emphasizes attaining ease and fluency in oral expression through group discussion and achieving accuracy and stylistic felicity in writing. |

Speaking, Writing Speaking: Intensive practice in speaking German to articulate and defend ideas & interpretations.
Writing: Frequent writing & revising; stylistic exercises.

Major Readings: Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore
A variety of literary and non-literary texts that deal with Germany's rich cultural and political history. A special focus will be given to works by German authors with a multicultural background.

Examinations and Assignments: Numerous short papers, vocabulary and grammar exercises; oral presentations. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Regular attendance and participation in class, as well as attendance at German films and events sponsored by the German Studies Department or the German Haus is expected. |
