This course will explore the history of the United States from 1901 until recent times including economic, social, cultural, and political issues. The unifying theme will be the emergence of modern American liberalism during the Progressive era and its dominance by the mid-20th century. Throughout this period, however, there was active minority resistance to liberal policies, culminating in a series of conservative triumphs in the latter twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. |
