Survey of Latin American History from the colonial period to the present. This course will trace the roots of ethnic, social, political and economic alignments and struggles in the former Spanish and Portuguese colonies of America, with a special emphasis on the formation of national, regional, indigenous, Afro-Latin, and gender identities. Contemporary rebellions and revolutions will be examined in light of their origins in historical processes and the impact of word-historical trends on the continent. |
