This course explores a range of debates and topics in the history of scientific discovery from the eighteenth-century to the present. Emphasis is on the social, ethical and cultural dimensions of scientific discovery in different cultural and historical contexts. Students learn how to write about science and the history of science using a wide range of textual and media sources. Focus in Spring 2006 is on four units: religion and science; gender and science; race and science; and science in the media. |
