Advanced Speaking, Writing, and Reading in Italian

This course is designed for students who have completed at least two years of college-level Italian or who have achieved equivalent competency through study in Italy. Our primary objective is to enhance reading, writing, speaking skills through exposure to a variety of literary genres and cultural texts: from the medieval SONETTO to opera, from the the modern ROMANZO (novel) to contemporary cinema. We will include different kinds of languages and jargons, such as movie scripts, newspapers, ads, bureaucratic forms, and Internet sites, etc.. Writing exercises may be freer in form, may imitate the genres studied, or may be a mixture of the two.

Essential Capabilities: Intercultural Literacy, Speaking
Students explore intercultural literacy by way of examination of various cultural texts (narrative, artistic, cinematic, poetic) that engage key questions of Italian society.
Students will speak daily and in a variety of formats: class discussion, presentations, interviews, etc.
