This course is designed to introduce basic ideas and techniques of differential calculus. Students should enter with sound precalculus skills but with very limited or no prior study of calculus. Topics to be considered include differential calculus of algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. (Integral calculus will be introduced in MATH118.) |

Use of a graphing calculator, TI-83 or later, is required. This introductory calculus class meets 4 hours each week, and includes small group work and lab time. Regular attendance and class participation is required.
Students may not get credit for both Math 117 and Math 121, and are encouraged to seek departmental advice about which course to take. Any student with prior study of calculus (but wishing to begin again) should enroll in Math 121. |
