Grounded in the European art music tradition, this course offers a global approach to the study of harmony and form. Through analysis, critical listening, and composition we will explore how musical structures shape expression across time and place. While focusing on Classical and Romantic repertoire, we'll also consider how diverse musical systems around the world engage with similar -- or radically different -- ideas of form and tonality. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Graded work will include weekly assignments, midterm, and a final creative project. Additionally, students will attend weekly skill section meetings for ear training. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students with an AP score of 4 or 5 in music theory should consult with the instructor regarding placement in MUSC 201 or 202. |
