Examinations and Assignments: Weekly assignments and a seminar paper at the end of the term. The seminar paper may be combined with a composition and/or performance. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: The seminar is called "Explorations in Music Analysis and Interpretation." We will take the tools for music analysis introduced in theory classes and apply them to a wide variety of traditions and repertoires. Topics will include the analysis of form, rhythm and meter, mode and melody, harmony and voice leading, music and text, and music and image in film. The seminar will be run in a series of workshops that will prepare students for independent projects at the end of term. |
