This course offers an introduction to improvisation/articulation/composition/performance in African-American diaspora idioms, jazz, and contemporary music derivatives. It is an opportunity for self-inventory, exploratory expression, and forging confidence through the honing of creative ensemble skills. The course develops cognitive articulation, kinetic efficiency, and the structuring of music imagined. All instruments including the human voice are invited. |

| Examinations and Assignments: Class participation and regular attendance, listening and research is required and will be the primary basis for grading. A final composition, a written report, and a final performance will be the basis for grading. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: NO AUDITION required.
All instruments (including the human voice) are welcome. Performance level proficiency is desired. Artists in other disciplines (dance, visual art, theater, literature) will be considered and requires discussion with the instructor.
Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation. |
