The Wesleyan University Orchestra performs music from all periods of music history, featuring classical repertoire alongside popular and contemporary works.
Rehearsals will combine intensive concert preparation with occasional readings of works not scheduled for performance. Open to all members of the Wesleyan community, this course may be taken for credit or noncredit. |

Examinations and Assignments: Midterm concert -- Sunday, October 18th, 3:00pm, Crowell Hall; Dress Rehearsal -- at noon. Program: Carl Nielsen, "Aladdin," Op. 34; Arthur Honegger, Concerto da Camera for Flute and English Horn (featuring Wesleyan private lesson instructors); Pyotr Tchaikovsky, "Romeo and Juliet" Fantasy-Overture.
Final Concert -- Saturday, December 5th, 7:00pm, Crowell Hall; Dress Rehearsal-- at 4:00pm; Program: Leonard Bernstein, Suite from "West Side Story" and TBA |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students who are taking advantage of pre-registration are required to contact the instructor to arrange an interview/audition meeting as soon as they register for the class. Only returning ensemble members may pre-register without an interview/audition.
Auditions are mandatory for all incoming members (NEW to the ensembles), as well as for former participants who took the previous semester off (for any reason).
Requirements: - a prepared piece that will best showcase your performance skills (accompaniment is not required); - you will be asked to sight-read an elementary/intermediate level excerpt at the time of your audition.

This course may be repeated. Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation. |
