The Wesleyan University Orchestra performs music from all periods of music history, featuring classical repertoire alongside film score arrangements, contemporary works, and student compositions.
Rehearsals will combine intensive concert preparation with occasional readings of works not scheduled for performance. Open to all members of the Wesleyan community, this course may be taken for credit or noncredit. |

| Examinations and Assignments: Concerts each semester. Mandatory attendance at all concerts and rehearsals. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Spring 2014 Auditions are intended for NEW players only (UNLESS you are a violinist trying for the concertmaster chair, which is currently vacant--details below*; otherwise, if you were a member of the Fall 2013 Orchestra and do not wish to become the concertmaster, you do NOT have to re-audition).
There are no specific requirements for the audition; a very informal, meet-and-greet type of event. Play what you like.
*ORCHESTRA CONCERTMASTER candidates (audition required): pelase, prepare two short contrasting orchestral excerpts (from our fall program, or anything from standard orchestral literature), and expect a brief sight-reading assignment.

Audition locations, Monday, January 27: 8:00am-noon --- Rehearsal Halls, 003 1:30pm-4:00pm --- Green Room (Crowell Hall, back stage)
First week of class is going to consist of OPEN reading sessions (all are welcome -- invite friends!) Monday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 29 7:00-9:00pm, Crowell Hall. Program: Dvorak, "From the New World"; Borodin, music from "Prince Igor"
Important Dates Children's Concert: Saturday, March 1, 1:00pm Program: O'Boyle "Country Kazoo Overture," Lankester "Make You Own Orchestra," Anderson "The Typewriter"
Spring 2014 Concert: Saturday, May 3, 8:00pm Program: Overture TBA, Haydn Symphony No. 59 "The Fire," music from Borodin's "Prince Igor" (with Wesleyan Concert Choir).
This course may be repeated. Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation. |
