The Wesleyan University Orchestra performs music from all periods of music history, featuring classical repertoire alongside popular and contemporary works.
Rehearsals will combine intensive concert preparation with occasional readings of works not scheduled for performance. Open to all members of the Wesleyan community, this course may be taken for credit or noncredit. |

Midterm concert -- Saturday, October 25; PROGRAM: Beethoven, Symphony No. 3, first movement, Mendelssohn, Symphony No. 4, second movement, Schumann, Symphony No. 4, third movement, Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition, fragments, David Behrman, "How We Got Here."
Final Concert -- Saturday, November 22; PROGRAM: Lopez, Music from "Frozen," Leontovich, "Carol of the Bells," Anderson, "A Christmas festival," Tchaikovsky, movements from "The Nutcracker" Suite. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students who are taking advantage of pre-registration are required to contact the instructor to arrange an interview/audition meeting as soon as they register for the class. Only returning ensemble members may pre-register without an interview/audition.
Auditions are mandatory for all incoming members (NEW to the ensembles), as well as for former participants who took Spring 2014 off (for any reason). Auditions will be held Monday, September 1st, 9-noon, and 1-3. Please sign up by navigating to the link listed below.
Requirements:
- a prepared piece that will best showcase your performance skills (accompaniment is not required);
- you will be asked to sight-read an elementary/intermediate level excerpt at the time of your audition.

In case none of the times available work for you, please make an individual appointment with the conductor (email preferred) for a later date. All auditions must be completed by the end of the drop-add period.
This course may be repeated. Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation. |
