Course Cluster: Southern Asia Studies |
A continued exploration of the song forms begun in Beginning South Indian Voice, with emphasis on the forms varnam and kriti, the cornerstones of the South Indian concert repertoire. Specific exercises will also be given to prepare students for the improvisational forms they will encounter in the advanced class to follow. |

Examinations and Assignments: Regular practice of lessons, periodic reading assignments, memorization of technical exercises and compositions. At the end of two semesters, students will give an informal presentation of their work. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Rudimentary sense of pitch and rhythm is required. Interested students should sign up in room 313 Music Studios for scheduling the time for the class.
Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation. |
