TOPIC: JPEGMAFIA and George Lewis
This course will explore the relationship between hip hop and experimental music by investigating the works of JPEGMAFIA and George Lewis. The music of both employs the full range of experimental musical practices and methods. In this course, we will explore the blending of artificial and natural sound worlds and use the compositional methods of JPEG and George in the creation of our own pieces. In this process, we will also examine the role of these methods in the history of hip hop and experimental music.
