This course examines the comparisons and contrasts of gender and sport. Concentration is directed to historical, philosophical, psycho-social, and biophysical aspects within a variety of sport environments. Topics include intercollegiate athletics, Olympic competition, youth sports, professional sports, global issues of a gender related nature, gender-equity issues, effects of the violence in sports, heterosexism in sports, cross-gender coaching, body image and athletes, etc. |
