Topics in this critical examination of issues debated by the early Confucian, Daoist, and Mohist philosophers will include the nature of normative authority and value, the importance of ritual, and the relation between personal and social goods. |
Essential Capabilities:
Intercultural Literacy By exploring a non-Western philosophical tradition, students gain insights into distinctive alternatives to the emphases in Western philosophy, as well as discovering some important similarities.

Examinations and Assignments: Three papers, three graded mini-papers, and numerous short, on-line writing assignments. Participation, in-class and/or on-line, is required and will form part of the final grade. |
