PHYS 111
Fall 2008
Section: 01

This is the first of two noncalculus courses covering the fundamental principles of physics and is targeted specifically toward life-science majors and students planning to enter the health professions. This is the first year that this course is being taught specifically with the life-science major in mind. It is followed by PHYS112, offered in the spring semester. By drawing on examples from everyday life, such as car crashes, basketball, and dance, as well as drawing from examples of interest to life scientists, the physics of mechanics, fluids, and electricity and magnetism will be covered in the first semester. The emphasis will be on developing a conceptual understanding of the physical processes as well as problem-solving skills.
