This course explores the entire range of the Buddhist tradition, from its origins in the Ganges valley of India, through its evolutions in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, China, Tibet, Korea and Japan, culminating in its encounter with the Western world and the contributions it is currently making to global civilization. We look at important Buddhist texts, trace the development of its key doctrines, explore the range of its practices, examine its major figures, and investigate its various forms of community. |
