Conducted in Russian, this course will focus on reading and composition and on such topics as verbal aspect, functional word order, and word formation. It requires language lab work. |

Essential Capabilities:
Intercultural Literacy
The study of Russian grammar includes learning distinctive Russian ways of conceptualizing action and learning how conceptions of space and time are imbedded in the Russian case system. The Russian language contains relatively few cognates with English, so students must learn an unfamiliar system of Slavic roots and etymologies that reflect Russian history. Texts for the course include literature and film that reflect Russian culture; discussions of the texts entail commentary on Russian culture.
