Poems, plays, essays, and short stories representative of various Spanish-speaking countries and different periods of literary history are used to improve speaking and writing skills and to introduce students to the fundamentals of literary analysis. The course is conducted exclusively in Spanish. Some laboratory work may be assigned. Besides the three hours of class sessions with the professor, all students are required to attend a weekly one-hour conversation section with a Spanish TA. |

Examinations and Assignments: Two mid-term exams and one final exam covering grammar, aspects of literary criticism, and the readings in literature. Four compositions that are corrected and returned to be rewritten. One weekly conversation section. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This course is intended for students who have completed SPAN112 with a grade of B- or better or have placed into SPAN221 through the placement test this fall. Readings, class discussion, and written work in Spanish only. |
