The Actor's Experience is an introduction to the practices of acting in rehearsal with a director. It is held in conjunction with THEA281- Intro to Directing; students will be working directly with the student directors in that class. Basic aspects of staging, collaboration, script, and character analysis will be covered. Commitment to attending scheduled rehearsals is vital. Each actor will have the opportunity to perform in both a short-form scene (mid-term) and long-form scene (final), performed in front of the class and invited guests. This class is a chance to be in community with other students interested in theater, and practice collaboration and care. Together students will consider why theater matters, and how theater-makers can offer more care to themselves, each other, and our audience. Students will participate in in-class staging exercises, outside rehearsals with peers, reading discussions, and viewing plays. The Actor's Experience is a half-credit class intended for majors and non-majors at varying levels of experience and is held in conjunction with the Intro to Directing class. |

Students will be assessed on their participation in various acting exercises, as well as their commitment to rehearsing and acting in both short form and long form scenes. Students will be required to write weekly posts reflecting on your experiences in class and in rehearsal; respond to one performance; and complete scene and character analysis paperwork for your final scene. Students will also be required to do occasional readings alongside the directors for the purposes of community discussion. |

This class begins in the 3rd week of the semester and meets primarily on Wednesdays with only occasional Mondays required. We are able to accommodate Monday class conflicts fairly easily.
