This course is designed to explore the actor's instrument--specifically, the vocal, physical, and imaginative tools necessary for the creative work of the actor. Students will examine the creative process practically and theoretically, through exercises, improvisation, psychophysical actions, and text work. The course explores approaches to and theories about acting that are rooted in the techniques of Konstantin Stanislavsky. |

Performance of in-class exercises, performance of scenes with partners, written analysis of scenes plus additional written feedback and reflection. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Admission to studio courses in Theater is at the discretion of individual faculty instructors. For Acting I, you must request a POI during the planning period and submit a short email to the instructor explaining your interest and course history in the Theater Department. Instructor(s) may request potential students to audition. If so, you will be required to present a 2 minute monologue of your choice--fully memorized. The course is a gateway to the Theater major, and primarily intended for frosh and sophomores. It is also a pre-requisite for Acting II and upper-level acting courses; and for Directing I.
Students are advised to submit a POI request for all available sections. |
