This intensive course in playwriting emphasizes the student's work. Writing exercises, discussion, and most important, writing and reading of student work constitute the major portion of this course. This will be a weekly three-hour workshop (1:00-4:00). |

Readings will be assigned as appropriate to the student's writing project.

Examinations and Assignments: Open-ended playwriting exercises--designed to facilitate the discovery of dramatic material--will form the bulk of the work. Each student will be expected to have a play written by the end of the semester. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Essential aspects of dramatic writing--plot exposition, pacing, one act vs. full length, and the importance of stage action--will be discussed and technical problems inherent in the dramatic form will be considered. A workshop atmosphere will prevail so that students engage in the kind of collaborative approach to problem solving that all dramatic writing requires. |
