This course will bring the performance practices of European Theater from the Greeks to the early 19th Century to life through Table Top reconstructions of period theatrical texts. Students will research the historical context, art, fashion, architecture, acting style, etc. of selected periods and apply that research to interpretations of historical plays through production of miniature performances. |

Essential Capabilities:
Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Interpretation
Students will be asked to research historical methods of performance in given periods of theater history. Their presentations should be thematically and historically appropriate to the period.

Selected plays will include, but not be limited to, the works of Aeschylus, Euripedes, Büchner, Molière, Shakespeare, and Marlowe.

Examinations and Assignments:
Each student will be involved in a monthly group presentation. The 3 assigned monthly presentations will be thematically and historically appropriate to the assigned period. Final projects will allow for reinterpretation and adaptation of the historical materials. Performances and relevant research will be documented for presentation on the Theater Department's website. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
THEA203 & THEA204 are required courses for Theater majors.
Students will present their reconstruction for their fellow students, in video-enhanced performances, and document their work through the creation of web pages. |
